There is now an organization known as the Hong Kong Jockey Club that promotes responsible gambling practices and minimizing the negative effects of gambling, such as addicts. The club plans on providing social and responsible betting to meet their goal. They look for a balance between meeting the demand for gambling and maximizing the social and economic benefits of gambling for the community, while helping to minimize potential harm to the individual and the community.

Gambling is illegal in the city except through the Hong Kong Jockey Club which takes bets on horse races (thus "Jockey Club"), football matches (known as "soccer" in the US) (very popular in Hong Kong), and lottery. Since this is the only way to gamble legally in Hong Kong and gambling is such a big leisure activity, the club is Hong Kong's largest single tax payer and her largest employer.
Macau Island
Macau is an island right off the coast of Hong Kong. To get there from Hong Kong, you can take a ferry for a couple of hours. Macau is somewhat like a Chinese version of Las Vegas; there's lots of gambling, casinos, and grand hotels. People that are looking to gamble a lot of money (I'm talking about in the thousands) usually come here to gamble.

Suggestion: If you're going to Macau, don't just visit the casinos. There are wonderful historical places to visit on the island, as well as delicious street food to try (like their beef jerky! It was the best beef jerky I have ever had!)
