Chinese Food

There are many types of Chinese food, ranging from different regions all over China. The most famous type of food you may have heard is probably DimSum. If you don't know what that is, it is usually a Chinese dish of small steamed or fried savory dumpling containing various fillings, served as a snack or main course. Looks like this:

Dimsum is mostly served in Guangzhou and in Hong Kong because it's the Cantonese style of Chinese food. There are different meal times in Hong Kong: breakfast, lunch, tea time (this became a custom after British rule), and dinner, sometimes even a late night snack. Dimsum is usually served from 11am-3pm, so basically for lunch and tea time.

In the olden days, waitresses used to hang a large bamboo tray around their neck and the bamboo tray would be filled with one kind of bun. They would shout loudly to sell the food. However, this practice died off because people thought that shouting over the food can result in the waitresses' spit in the food when it's served.
They usually look like this, but the tray is usually a large version of the bamboo steam containers of the previous picture.

Now, they don't carry it around their necks (which I must say looks very tiring). They push around the dimsum in carts and there's usually a variety of them.

Dimsum is cheap, delicious, and you can get pretty full from eating just a couple dishes. If you haven't tried them yet, please go do so! There's a lot of things that foreigners may find disgusting (like chicken feet, which are very good by the way), so ask what they are if you're picky! If you're not picky, I highly recommend trying new things. You don't know what you may actually like!
